By drinking a large glass of water first thing when you get up, not only does it rehydrate you, but it also wakes you up and gets your digestive system working. If you don’t like the taste of cold water first thing in the morning then try add juice of a lemon in some warm water instead. Try to have this glass of water before any food and especially before tea or coffee.
Whether you choose to go for a run or to stay at home and do some yoga, try to spend time doing some kind of movement, even if it’s just for 5 minutes. Working out in the morning really sets you up for the day and energises you. You are also more likely to stay on track with other healthy habits as you have started the day well.
By having all your meals ready for the day, you don’t have to think about what you are going to eat when you are rushing around getting ready. You can grab your planned out meals from the fridge and go. This will prevent you grabbing quick, convenient foods that might not be so healthy or filling and will also stop you from buying unhealthy sugar snacks when you start to feel hungry. Whether you choose to meal prep on a Sunday or the night before, make sure you have it ready to go for the day.
Before you get out of bed, set an intention for the day. This could be something positive that you would like to do, how you would like to feel, or something you would like to achieve for the day. Maybe it is to stay positive when something stressful happens, to drink more water throughout the day, or to smile more. Remind yourself of your intention throughout the day. Setting an intention helps you to focus your attention more positively and helps you to decide how you would like your day to go.
